McMaster University Library Partners With Kirtas Technologies, Ristech and Lulu.com to Unleash Thousands of Rare Books to the World

With the support of Kirtas' Canadian reseller Ristech, McMaster
University will be using the Kirtas APT BookScan 2400RA to digitize rare,
out-of-print books. Once the books are digitized and processed, files will
be made available to the world on the Internet through the university
library and for sale as print-on-demand books on Lulu.com.

"We have significant collections that we would like to make more widely
accessible through digitization," said Jeffrey Trzeciak, University

Save the dates for the eighth annual West Texas Book and Music Festival, September 23-27, 2008 at the Abilene Civic Center in Abilene, Texas. Dr. Don B. Graham, a distinguished writer and teacher specializing in Texas and Southwest literature, will be the 2008 recipient of the A. C. Greene Award to be presented at the West Texas Book & Music Festival on Sept. 27.
Graham is the J. Frank Dobie Regents Professor at the University of Texas at Austin and is a writer-at-large for Texas Monthly magazine.

MV Doulos Arrives in Fiji , Offering Books to the Third World

The Fiji Times reports on the arrival today of the world's oldest passenger ship and the largest floating book shop, MV Doulos. The 94-year-old cruise vessel, with its goal of "Bringing knowledge, help and hope" will spend a month in Lautoka and Suva.

The vessel is owned by German charitable organisation, Good Books for All.

Spanish version of the Copy/South Dossier

This is a press release from the Copy South Research Group. It announces
the release (28 April 2008) of the Spanish edition of the 210-page
CS Dossier as prepared by Servicio Autónomo de la Propiedad Intelectual
(SAPI), the Intellectual Property agency of the Bolivarian Republic of
Venezuela.

The English version of the release follows the Spanish text.
