PCC recognizes Backstage Library Works as independent NACO contributor

PROVO, Utah, July 16, 2015 –– Recognized by the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) as an independent contributor to Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO), Backstage Library Works ( joins a global effort in building the Library of Congress Name Authority File by contributing authority records for personal, corporate, and geographic names as well as uniform titles.

NACO is a component of the PCC, which, through its member programs shapes the future of cataloging, reduces cataloging costs and expands access to library collections.

As a NACO partner, Backstage will now offer its clients options for creating and editing name authority records. These include working on a backlog of authority records, contributing local authorities, and incorporating name authority record creation as a part of cataloging projects. Backstage can work from surrogates, e-books, and existing lists to create and contribute records on behalf of libraries, and can customize the level of information entered into name authority records, from just the core elements, to fully detailed records.

Nicole Arbuckle, vice president of metadata services for Backstage states:

“As an active participant in the library community, becoming a member of NACO is consistent with our commitment to providing libraries with quality, cost-effective services. Each of our in-house catalogers has been NACO trained and records are reviewed by our authority control librarian and institutional reviewer, Karen Anderson. We are glad to be a part of the ongoing collaborative effort of the PCC to support the Library of Congress’ Name Authority File.”
