PROVO, Utah, June 20, 2014 — Backstage Library Works ( has seen a dramatic increase in requests for its customizable RDA enrichment services. In the first six months of 2014, out of 11.1 million bibliographic records scheduled for authority control processing for new clients, 10.8 million records were marked for enrichment.

Backstage’s vice president of automation services, Nate Cothran notes:

“This is an exciting time to be working with institutions interested in enriching their records with RDA elements. At Backstage, we enjoy working with our clients, customizing the process to meet their needs, and seeking to provide exemplary service at every opportunity.

“Nearly all of the new customers who have completed processing with us in the last six months have requested RDA enrichment. Our existing clients are also benefiting from ongoing RDA enrichment services to ensure continued consistency within their catalogs."

Backstage’s authority control system offers deep customization through an online profile, detailed planning guides and wikis, and a generous set of reports. Processing includes field validation and data cleanup, with optional local authority data preservation, matching against a number of specialized vocabulary files, and RDA enrichment. These services assist libraries in creating consistency and uniformity within their databases.

Backstage can upgrade existing non-RDA bibliographic records to RDA standards and re-describe the records as RDA in an automated fashion according to an institution’s preferences. To help libraries maintain newly updated catalogs with heading accuracy, and to benefit from future RDA-based discovery capabilities, Backstage offers new bibliographic record upgrades and authority updates as part of its authority control services.
